Messaging app Telegram gained more than 70 million new users during Monday’s Facebook outage, its founder Pavel Durov said on Tuesday, as people around the world were left without important messaging services for nearly six hours.
what is here Durov said:
Yesterday Telegram experienced a record increase in user registrations and activity.
Telegram’s daily growth rate exceeded the norm by an order of magnitude, and we welcomed over 70 million refugees from other platforms in one day. I am proud of how our team handled the unprecedented development as Telegram continued to work flawlessly for most of our users. That said, some users in the US may have experienced slower speeds than usual as millions of users across these continents rushed to sign up for Telegram at the same time.
I ask my existing users to say hello to their newly arrived friends, help them to open, and tell them what do we have in stock. Make sure they stick around and see why Telegram is light years ahead of the competition.
To new users I want to say this – welcome to Telegram, the largest independent messaging platform. We won’t fail you when others do.
Durov said some users in the US may have experienced slow speeds as millions rushed to sign up at the same time, but the service worked as usual for most.
EU Antitrust Chief Margaret Vestager said outage Demonstrated the repercussions of relying on a few big players and underscored the need for more rivals.

WhatsApp’s nearly six-hour-long outage affected trading of Russian oil assets from cryptocurrencies on Monday, market players said, although a quick shift to alternative platforms such as Telegram limits serious disruption.
