Longtime BJP leader and MLA from Tripura’s Surma constituency Ashish Das on Tuesday shaved his head as a mark of “penance for misdeeds” by the BJP-led government in the state and performed a yagya at the famous Kalighat temple in Kolkata. , not far from the house of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

He accused the BJP of promoting “political anarchy and anarchy” in Tripura and said that people are unhappy with the performance of the state government, so he has decided to quit the party.

He has praised Mamata Banerjee in the past, pitching her for the post of Prime Minister, and for the past two years, has been seen as a strong critic of Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb.

There is speculation that Mr. Das will soon join the Trinamool, which is eyeing Tripura. The state will vote in early 2023.

“Today I have shaved my head as a penance for the misgovernance of the BJP government. I have decided to quit the party and my next step will be time to decide. But the kind of chaos and misrule witnessed in Tripura under the BJP-led regime. Yes, he has moved on. Me and so for the last two years, I have been critical of all these wrongdoings and I am working for the people beyond the party and politics,” said Ashish Das.

Meanwhile, Tripura BJP sources have indicated to NDTV that the party will take disciplinary action against Mr. Das.

Speaking to the media in Kolkata, Mr Das, MLA from North Tripura’s Soorma assembly seat, also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for “selling most government properties to private parties”.

He said, “Once upon a time, Modi’s messages created a stir in the minds of all sections of the people across the country and touched the hearts of the people. Modi had never said ‘na khaunga na khaane dunga’. But now, this country It has become a popular jumla.

Earlier, Mr. Das had greatly praised Ms. Banerjee for winning the by-election to Bhawanipur assembly seat, saying that many people and organizations want Ms. Banerjee as the Prime Minister and her elevation to the post is very important because She is a Bengali.
