WhatsApp Said to Be Working on New Community Feature, Will Allow to ‘Group Other Groups Easily’

WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new community feature. This new feature was spotted by WABetaInfo as under development and is said to be an extension of the group. According to the feature tracker, WhatsApp Communities is likely to be a new place where group admins can have more control over groups on WhatsApp, primarily to group other groups easily. This feature is not available for beta users as it is still in development phase and may take some time to roll out for testing purposes.

WABetaInfo is share Screenshots of what’s on the new community WhatsApp will look like. Going by the name, it is likely to host a large group of like-minded people or people with similar interests. It is said that the admin of the WhatsApp community has more control than the group admin. The WhatsApp community icon is said to be square-shaped with rounded edges to differentiate the community from the group chat.

The tracker reports that admins will be able to send messages in this group chat and will be able to group certain groups related to the community. The community has also reported providing some tools for admins to better manage all the groups involved in the community. However, what these advanced devices could be is not known at the moment. Since this feature is still in the early stages of development, lack of clarity surrounds it. Admins will reportedly be able to invite other people to join the community. Users can be added manually or they can join using a “community invite link” depending on whether the community is kept private or public.

To give a vague idea of what a WhatsApp community might be, WABetaInfo gives an example of students in a degree course that can be considered a community. All of its teaching classes are groups included in this community. Another example is given of WBI’s official Discord server, in which Discord Saver can be considered a community, while its channels are community groups. According to the tracker, this WhatsApp community feature is in development on WhatsApp beta for both Android and iOS.
